It's not difficult to find a cheap Chromebook on sale pretty much whenever — but when Black Friday rolls around, you can expect prices to drop to outrageous year-round lows. (Several $79 Chromebooks were a highlight of Black Friday 2022 at Amazon, Best Buy, and Walmart.)

While the Chromebook deals popping up ahead of Black Friday 2023 aren't that good just yet, we've spotted a handful of tempting doorbusters starring ChromeOS-based laptops from Lenovo and HP as part of several retailers' pre-holiday sales. That includes two models under $150 and one from Google's new upgraded Chromebooks Plus line, which launched only weeks ago in early October.

Why we like it

In the cheapest overall laptop deal of Black Friday 2023 so far, you can get this 15.6-inch Lenovo Chromebook for just $139 at Best Buy. (Note that it usually sells for $219.99 on Acer's website — the retailer's price is slightly inflated.) It's not an impressive PC by any means: It has an old Intel Celeron N4040 processor, a measly 4GB of RAM, 128GB of eMMC storage, a 720p webcam, and a 1280 x 800 display. But for this price, it's a solid buy for casual tasks like web browsing, taking notes, and watching YouTube videos.

Google recently unveiled the Chromebooks Plus, a new series of premium Chromebooks with built-in Google apps, Full HD IPS displays, and 1080p+ cameras with AI features — they're basically next-level budget laptops. This convertible 14-inch Lenovo model that can do double duty as a tablet comes with a 13th-generation Intel Core i3 processor, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of SSD storage, and a backlit keyboard. Best Buy just marked it down to $379, which is 25% off its suggested retail price of $499 — a hefty discount for a laptop that's barely a month old.
