Yahoo confirms massive leak of 500 million user accounts

After months of speculation surrounding a data breach that compromised information from millions of Yahoo user accounts from 2012, the company has officially confirmed the hack.

On Thursday afternoon, Yahoo officially confirmed the data breach via a statement on its website and noted the attack was undertaken by state-sponsored hackers. The company confirmed 500 million Yahoo users have been exposed by the hack.

Yahoo confirmed the investigation has found no evidence that the state-sponsored actor is currently in Yahoo’s network. 

On Thursday morning, Recode reported that several sources involved with Yahoo said the company — which was recently purchased by Verizon for $4.83 billion — finally planned to address the data breach. Read more...
