It's never a bad time to add a new iPad to your collection. It doesn't matter if it's your first or your fifth, these portable powerhouses can handle just about anything you throw at them. They're great options for streaming your favorite TV shows and movies, gaming on the go or getting some work done on your commute.

As of Jan. 19, you can save some serious money on a few of the most prominent iPad models on the market, from the classic iPad to the iPad Air and everything in between. To make things a bit easier for you, we've selected a few of our favorite deals that are a good idea to snap up right now — before they're all gone.

Below, find our picks for the best iPad deals you can buy right now.

Best iPad deal overall

2021 iPad (64GB, WiFi)
$249 at Amazon (Save $80)

Why we like it

This 2021 iPad is hovering around the $229 price it went for around Black Friday, which makes it a great option you should snatch up. For this price, a recent iPad is a no-brainer, no matter what you're looking to use it for. It's also still cheaper than the 2022 iPad model even when that model's on sale. Given Apple's penchant for incremental upgrades, you aren't missing out on much if you skip the pricier upgrade. This tablet is great for browsing online, watching YouTube videos, or keeping up with family, so non-power users have plenty of reasons to get this bad boy while it's hot – figuratively speaking, of course.

Best 2022 iPad deal

2022 iPad (WiFi, 64GB)
$419 at Amazon (Save $30)

Why we like it

For those who don't mind spending a little extra to get a more recent iPad model, the 2022 edition is still well worth buying to say you're up to date with newer tech. This model nets you an upgrade to the A14 Bionic chip, which offers zippier performance, and WiFi 6 connectivity. Its battery life also lasts a bit longer, making it a prime choice for long usage sessions. If none of that really matters to you, though, you can still get away with grabbing an older model, since the differences are negligible if you're a casual user.

Best iPad Air deal

iPad Air (256GB, WiFi)
$649.99 at Amazon (Save $99.01)

Why we like it

The iPad Air isn't quite as small as the iPad Mini, but it's downsized enough from its other iPad brethren that it makes a significant difference. This lightweight tablet is a great alternative to the heavier iPad and iPad Pro, with a thin and lightweight chassis that houses an M1 chip, Touch ID, and WiFi 6 support. You can also use the Apple Pencil with this model for simple note-taking on the go. It's everything you love about the original iPad but in a much more portable package.

iPhone 16 tipped to have new 'capture button': 3 things it can do

iPhone 15 Pro on a table

The iPhone 16 is reportedly getting a new capture button, a dedicated feature that lets you take photos and videos more conveniently, according to The Information.

As The Verge pointed out, this rumor aligns with scuttlebutt from MacRumors, which claims the new camera-focused button will be located on the same side as the power button, but placed slightly lower on the device's edge.

3 things the 'capture button' can do

As mentioned, the capture button will reportedly be positioned on the lower-right edge of the iPhone 16. As such, if you were to turn the device to landscape mode, it should conveniently sit under your index finger, making it easy to snap photos and capture videos.

What can it do? Here are three features the new capture button may offer:

1. Pressure sensitivity

MacRumors claims that the capture button won't be a traditional, mechanical one. It will, instead, be capacitive. In other words, it won't operate like a typical button that succumbs to pressure and hits an actuation point before running a function.

It will reportedly detect your touch and provide haptic feedback, similar to the Home Button on the iPhone SE series.

The Information disagrees, adding that the new capture button has both capabilities. It's a button that can be pushed, but it responds to touch gestures, too, like swiping left and right.

2. Zoom in and out

Using swiping gestures on the capture button reportedly lets you take close-up shots for photos and lets you zoom in while shooting videos.

3. Bring images into focus

If the user presses lightly on the capture button, it supposedly bring subjects into focus on the viewfinder. By pressing more firmly, however, users can activate the shutter button.

Final thoughts

iPhone 15 Pro models made a splash with a well-received new action button that lets users customize and program the button with apps and tasks that make their lives more seamless and efficient.

The action button is now expected to be featured on all iPhone 16 models. In the same way that the action button was limited to the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, I expect the rumored new capture button to be featured on only the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.

New AirPods Pro with ‘Year of the Dragon’ engraving are here. But there’s a catch.

AirPods Pro with Year of the Dragon engraving

Apple is selling some really cool-looking AirPods Pro right now, but you may not be able to buy them.

According to MacRumors, there's a swanky new AirPods Pro model made to celebrate the imminent Lunar New Year in February, which will kick off the Year of the Dragon. There's no functional difference between these AirPods Pro and the ones you may have bought last year, but there is an important aesthetic difference: There's a cool dragon engraving on the charging case.

And now for the bad news. These AirPods are only on sale in east and southeast Asia, specifically in China, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Macao, Singapore, Taiwan, and South Korea.

Maybe you can find a way to import them to the U.S., or maybe you already live in one of those places and can buy them the regular way. If not, though, you may have to just admire them from afar. It's one unfortunate thing (on a very long list) about living in the U.S.: We don't always get the coolest time-limited merch.

Save big on the Apple Watch Series 9 now that it's sticking around

Apple Watch Series 9 on orange and purple abstract background

SAVE $236: The latest Apple Watch Series 9 (41mm, GPS + cellular) is just $462.83 at Amazon, marked down from the regular price of $699. That's a 34% discount.

Apple Watch Series 9 (41mm, GPS + cellular)
$462.83 at Amazon (save $236.17)

If you've been waiting to invest in a new Apple Watch until the hubbub surrounding the Apple Watch Series 9's blood oxygen functionality has died down, you might want to go ahead and grab yours now while you can get it at a great price. The watches are no longer being banned from sale since Apple has decided to simply remove the functionality from new versions, so that means you can go ahead and get the watch you've had your eye on without worrying about scarcity. In fact, there's a great deal going on right now at Amazon that you won't want to pass up.

As of Jan. 17, the Apple Watch Series 9 (41mm, GPS + cellular) is just $462.83 at Amazon, which is $236.17 off its normal price of $699. That's a 34% discount. This price only applies to the Silver Stainless Steel Case with Storm Blue Sport Band option, however. If you don't happen to like that combination, you can just get a case for the watch face and swap out a band you do like.

The Series 9 just debuted in September, so it's the latest and greatest non-Ultra Apple Watch on the market. It has some of the most recent additions to watchOS, including the new Double Tap function. It lets you double tap your index finger to your thumb to answer calls, control your music, reply to messages, and more.

The watch's incremental upgrades for the year are worth looking at, too. Not only does the watch now shine twice as brightly as the previous model but it's faster, too, which means you get more power in a smaller overall package. It brings all the normal health-tracking features as well, and these models will retain the blood oxygen monitoring functionality, if that's what you're looking to get from a new Apple Watch.

This is a great price to grab your new watch at if you want to be able to use it anywhere thanks to its GPS + cellular configuration. But grab it fast, because it won't stay in stock long at this price.

Spotify launches 'daylist' because it knows your music taste varies throughout the day

Three phone screens displaying different daylists on Spotify.

Are you more of a "yearning and melodramatic" Tuesday morning person or a "dance energy" Tuesday morning person? Whichever it is, Spotify knows and has an ever-evolving playlist for you.

Today (Sept. 12), the streaming platform launched "daylist," yet another way for it to recommend music to its listeners. Unlike Niche Mixes and AI DJ, daylist is a singular playlist that updates and changes throughout the day to accommodate your listening habits. Because the music you listen to during the morning commute rush might not be the same music you want to listen to when it's time for a mid-afternoon walk or an evening wind-down.

According to Spotify, "daylist updates frequently, bringing together the niche music and microgenres you typically stream at certain times of the day and week. You'll get new tracks at every update, plus a new title that sets the mood of your daylist," a spokesperson told Mashable.

To listen to daylist, search "daylist" on Spotify and find out what that specific day and time reveals about your listening habits. For example, Spotify informed me that my music on Monday afternoons leans "cinematic" and "wistful" and populated my daylist with boygenius and their solo music. Its title was "yearning wistful Monday afternoon." Of the 50 songs it recommended, I knew 33 and there was only one by an artist I'd never listened to before.

This new ephemeral feature suggests that Spotify is still looking for new ways to monopolize your time spent on the platform. They're hoping this one will keep you coming back for more.

$189 at Amazon (save $60)

There's a ton of great music out lately. Make sure you have the best possible way to enjoy your favorite tunes on the go, whether you're a big Lil Nas X fan or you're a Swiftie still spinning 1989 (Taylor's Version) on repeat. Pick up a pair of Apple AirPods Pro for a great price.

As of Jan. 16, you can get a pair of Apple AirPods Pro (2nd Gen) for just $189, down from $249, at Amazon. That's a 24% discount, and a savings of $60. It's also the lowest price we've seen since Black Friday.

These great-sounding buds come with everything you'd expect from AirPods, including excellent active noise cancellation. You can also customize your fit with four pairs of silicone tips from extra small to large. They also feature spatial audio, which helps to deliver a more immersive listening experience. And because many of us listen to earbuds when walking around in public, you can rely on Transparency Mode to help you stay aware of your surroundings when it matters most.

At this price, it's a great idea to go ahead and lock your pair in — this is still the lowest price we've seen these earbuds go for. If you don't need them for yourself, they can always make a great gift for when the next birthday or holiday rolls around. No doubt your recipients will be thrilled to receive them.

The Amazon Fire HD 10 tablet just dropped to a new all-time low price

Amazon Fire Hd 10 tablets with colorful background

SAVE $75: As of Jan. 16, the Amazon Fire HD 10 tablet with 64GB of storage is on sale for just $104.99 — that's 42% off its regular price and a new all-time low.

Amazon Fire HD 10 tablet (64GB)
$104.99 at Amazon (save $75)

Contrary to popular belief, the iPad is not the best tablet for everyone. It all depends on what matters most to you. If you want a tablet strictly for streaming, playing games, and browsing on the go, but you have a tight budget, the Amazon Fire HD 10 tablet will suit you and your wallet better — especially while it's on sale.

As of Jan. 16, the 64GB version of the Fire HD 10 tablet with lockscreen ads is on sale for just $104.99 at Amazon. That's 42% in savings compared to its usual $179.99 cost and its lowest price to date. The version without lockscreen ads is also down to an all-time low of $119.99 instead of $194.99 — a savings of 38%.

Mashable's SaVanna Shoemaker recently tested the Fire HD 10 tablet and was pleasantly surprised, calling it "lighter and faster than its predecessors, with a long battery life and vivid picture that makes it great for on-the-go entertainment." She noted that the Amazon Silk browser has improved tremendously, the display is generous and crisp, the sound is solid for streaming, there's a vastly improved front-facing camera, and it even works decently as an e-reader.

It's not perfect — the Amazon App Store is pretty limited compared to Apple's App Store or the Google Play Store. But, for the price, it's hard to complain.

Samsung Galaxy S24 to come with a new Google AI feature, and it's a cool one

Samsung Galaxy S24

It's no secret that Samsung's upcoming S-series smartphone flagships will heavily lean on AI smarts. Samsung calls the S24 phones, likely to be unveiled on January 17 during Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked event, the "AI phones."

Now, however, thanks to a series of what appear to be leaked marketing materials from Samsung (Evan Blass via 9to5Google), we know a little bit more about the phones' specs, and one particularly interesting feature.

The feature, called "Circle to Search," appears to be powered by Google's artificial intelligence smarts. The leaked description says "search any image, video, or text on your screen. Circle, highlight, scribble, or tap to pinpoint what you’re curious about, no screenshots necessary." We'd have to try it out to see how it works, but it sounds like a cool upgrade to Google Lens, which is a Google app that allows you to search with your phone's camera.

Other AI-powered features that are coming include live translation of phone calls, better night-time zoom (again, thanks to AI smarts), and an AI-powered "Note Assist" feature in Samsung Notes.

Some of the specs have leaked as well. Apparently, the Samsung S24 Ultra will have a flat, 6.8-inch display and a 200-megapixel main camera. The Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus will have a 6.7-inch display and a 50-megapixel main camera, and the Samsung Galaxy S24 will have a 6.2-inch display with a 50-megapixel main camera.

Another interesting detail from the leaked materials reveals that the new phones will come with 7 years of Android updates, just like Google's Pixel phones.

To watch the Galaxy Unpacked event, tune in to the live stream on Samsung's website at 1 p.m. ET on January 17.

Apple's Vision Pro demos will reportedly last 25 minutes

Apple Vision Pro

On February 2, Apple's spatial computer (everyone else calls these virtual reality headsets), the Vision Pro, will hit the stores, and Apple will start offering demos to customers at Apple Store locations in the U.S.

We knew this was coming, but details on how these demos will look like were absent. Now, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has a fairly detailed outline of what the demos will consist of and how long they'll take.

According to Gurman, each demo will last about 25 minutes. After setting the demo unit up for the customer (including setting up lenses for people with prescription glasses), and explaining the basics of how the device works, the demo will begin.

It will reportedly include a tour through the photos app, including some 3D images and videos (spatial photos and spatial videos in Apple's lingo). The demo will also include a quick tour on how to use the Vision Pro as a computer or iPad replacement, with details such as scrolling through webpages in Safari or positioning multiple app windows in space. Finally, the customers will be shown 3D and immersive movie clips, including videos of wild animals, the ocean and sports. Gurman also mentions a "compelling scene that makes users feel as if they're on a tightrope."

All in all, it sounds a lot like the demos Apple gave to some members of the media over the last couple of months.

As we previously wrote, getting a demo is free and does not require pre-ordering or purchasing the $3,499 device. Apple has invited customers to sign up for a demo at their local Apple Stores, starting at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, February 2, with demos served on Friday and through the weekend on a first-come, first-served basis.
